4 students working with cubes on a math assignment.
JANET HARDEN

Working collaboratively, Mrs.Tipton's 5th grade students used connecting cubes to build and explore rectangular prisms, physically modeling how three-dimensional shapes take up space. By combining the cubes from multiple prisms, they determined the total or combined volume, helping them visualize how volume can be calculated and added together. This hands-on activity strengthened their understanding of how length, width, and height work together to determine the amount of space inside a solid figure.
