6th grade students in Mrs. Mills's ELA and Social Studies classes are reading The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, a true story about a boy their age who lives in Malawi. To understand and connect to the book, students have studied Malawi and the geography of the continent of Africa. Students have created African maps and had a choice to make either a political, physical, or thematic map. This was a great opportunity for them to be creative, use research skills, and understand geography and map concepts.
