Poinsettias with Various Materials

In Mrs. Faust's Art class, students were given the challenge to use their observation skills to look at live poinsettias to do an artwork using their choice of materials. Students were allowed to interpret what they observe in whatever art style they felt was appropriate. Each student’s interpretation of the project’s parameters was unique and students used a variety of materials such as oil pastel, paint, paper collage and even a relief sculpture. Many students used varying degrees of abstraction while some choose the more technical demands of realism.

Five framed children's drawings of plants and a frog are arranged on a light green background.
Three framed artworks display vibrant red poinsettias in the foreground, with abstract floral patterns and a still life of flowers by a window in the background.
